Bears Down Dolphins

Bears Down Dolphins

Baton Rouge takes the twinbill from #2 ranked Delgado on Saturday at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears entered today's action on a skid, having dropped seven of their last nine games.

Game one saw freshman, hurler John Schaffer throw a complete game against the Dolphins.  Schaffer allowed one run on four hits in the seven inning conest. BRCC plated four runs in the 3rd inning, with the big hit coming from Austin Vicknair. Vicknair, the designated hitter, cleared the bases with a triple, and gave the Bears a 4-0 lead.

Mark Traylor Jr.'s RBI single in the sixth inning extended the Bears lead to 5-1, which would be the winning margin.

In game two, Baton Rouge jumped out to another early lead. Benjamin McGrew's RBI single gave the Bears an early 1-0 lead. McGrew added two more RBI's when he doubled in the fifth inning. BRCC led 3-0 going into the sixth inning when the Delgado bats came alive. Delgado scored three runs to tie the game.

Neither team was able to score in the 7th inning, so the Bears and Dolphins headed to the 8th inning before the tie would be broken. Zachary Zimmer led off the inning with a single; then Shayne Narro came in to pinch run.  Steven Bright laid down a bunt to advance the runner, but due to a throwing error by Delgado both players were safe. Austin Vicknair then advanced Narro to third on a fielder's choice. Baton Rouge had runners on the corners as Jose Dupuy came to the plate. Dupuy ended the game with a walk-off single to right field that left the Bears celebrating the Saturday sweep.

Kelby Blalock entered the game in relief. He pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the 4-3 victory.

BRCC will try for the series sweep when these two teams meet on Sunday afternoon. They will play one 9-inning game; first pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
