Baton Rouge Drops Series at Meridian

BRCC opened Miss-Lou Conference play this weekend with a three game series at Meridian Community College. The Bears and Eagles played two 7-inning games on Saturday afternoon, followed by a 9-inning game on Sunday. BRCC dropped two games on Saturday before bouncing back on Sunday with a 2-1 win over the Eagles.

Meridian won the first game of the series 10-4. BRCC scored all their runs in the 3rd inning and could only muster eight hits in the contest. Meanwhile, Meridian recorded 14 hits and scored three runs in each of the 2nd, 4th and 6th innings.

Baton Rouge bounced back in game two and scored two runs in the first inning to take an early lead. However, the Bears would not score any more runs on Saturday and only had five hits during the second game. They still lead most of the game before giving up two runs in the 6th inning. In the seventh, the Eagles ended the day with a 2-run walk off homerun which sent the Bears falling to an 0-2 start.

Mason Liles took the mound on Sunday afternoon and threw a complete game for Baton Rouge. BRCC came away with a 2-1 victory after Zachary Zimmer drove in the winning run off a squeeze play.

The weekend series brings BRCC's overall record to 14-21 (1-2) on the season. Baton Rouge has fought back this past month to post a 14-11 record after beginning the season 0-10. Next up for the Bears will be a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field versus East Central Community College. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
