Bears Fall 4-2 in Season Opener

Bears Fall 4-2 in Season Opener

Bears baseball opened the season Friday night under the lights at Pete Goldsby Field. Game one did not finish with the Bears on top, having lost to Panola College by a score of 4-2, but the season is underway and BRCC has 55 more games to play this spring.

Freshman, John Schaffer took the mound for BRCC throwing four scoreless innings. The game was tied at zero until the fifth inning, when Panola was able to cross the plate with the first run of the ball game. Panola extended their lead to 4-0 with a 3-run home run in the top of the 7th.

The Bears did not go away quietly. They quickly answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the seventh, however 4-2 is as close as they would come.  In the end, the Bears had runners in scoring position throughout the evening, but could not score enough runs to start the season with a win.

The Bears and Ponies are back at it today with a doubleheader that begins at 11:00 am. Tickets to the game ar $5.00 with children under 12 getting in for free.

Today's action will not be broadcast on Fox Sports Radio AM 910 due to a men's and women's basketball game being played at BRCC.
