Seven BRCC Student Athletes earn NJCAA Academic Honors

Baton Rouge Community College had seven student athletes awarded National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) honors for their academic achievements.

To receive NJCAA All-Academic honors, student-athletes must post at least a 3.60 grade point average and have a course load of 24 or more credit hours.  The NJCAA has three separate tiers of academic honors: first-team is a 4.0 GPA; second-team is a 3.80-3.99 GPA; third-team is 3.60-3.79.

Softball paced the Bears recipients with five student-athletes receiving honors. Lacey Bonvillain, freshman pitcher from Opelousas earned first team honors.  Sophomores' Cori Breaux, outfielder from Lafayette, Payge Hebert, infielder from Arnaudville and Shelby Breaux, pitcher from Maurice earned third team honors.  They were joined on the third team by freshman infielder Courtney Ortego.

Two baseball student athletes earned All-Academic honors.  Sophomore outfielder Kolby Blanchard from Prairieville and freshman infielder Kyle Pitre from Berwick earned second team honors.
